Unifi Router Buyer's Guide in 2021
If you use Unifi at your home, you are probably not so happy with the speed and stability of the WiFi network. That’s because TM is still a business and they cannot give an expensive router while remain profitable. But, luckily, TM doesn’t stop you from buying your own router.
While the router provided by TM isn’t too bad, they have slower CPU and weaker WiFi coverage. This means they aren’t very good if you stay in a bigger home or if you have more WiFi devices at home. Thus, in this article, I will show you some WiFi routers that I’ve tested that will recommend for you to upgrade your home WiFi router.

Other Brands (Tenda, Netgear and etc)
There are also other brands in the market and most if not all Enterprise level gear can be configured to support Unifi. But, we do not include them in this list as they may be harder to configure for most users.
Netgear is known for requiring manual setup of VLAN for it to work with Unifi.
Hi, i have lost both my TM stock modem and router during house moving. I am planning to get an ASUS RT-AC55UHP as you have suggested, but i would like to ask the best compatible modem for this router on Unifi 30mbps. Or is it necessary to get a modem? Is the AC55UHP a modem & router device? Or you can suggest me a good modem & router combo for single story 1500 sqft apartment? Thank you.
You have to request for a new modem from TM. There’s no way to get a third party modem for Unifi .
Hi,
Will you do review on the TP-Link Archer C9?
I will review it if I have the device. I suggest getting Archer C3150.
Thanks for recommendation, but this Archer C3150 is over budget..
hi,please suggest me .what router should i buy for unifi 30mbps .im stay in terrace but my signal always 5mbps-12mbps ..3 user.

Hey, im recently subscribed to the 30mpbs plan and was given the TP-LINK AC1200 (imma assume this is the default router given to everyone). I live in a double storey terrace house and the router is located at the 1st floor. I noticed that the coverage on the ground (not directly below it), is extremely bad. Furthermore, at the 1st floor, the room which is about 15m from it also suffered bad coverage. Is this normal? Should I ask for a new router? or should I buy a new one? if so, can u suggest a router below RM500 🙂… Read more »
If your house is very big, it is hard for the wireless signal to reach everywhere. You can try a stronger wireless router like the RT-AC55UHP or use a signal extender like a powerline wireless kit.

Hi BT, i just called a tech to investigate my speed decrease. He claimed my Asus RTU router is having speed of 30mbps but my package is 50. He swap the router to the Dlink Router and it reaches 50mbps. What could be the issue?
What model are you using? If it is an old model, you should get a wireless AC capable router.

Hello!
I am about to move into my apartment which is next to mine ( connecting houses) and I want to have only one internet package. My apartments is 2000 sq.ft. each and the router will be in the middle. My question is, which router do u think is best to get the connection for the whole house.
P.s. We have +-8 people using the Wi-Fi. Each person has at least 2 devices and we have 3 consoles using the Wi-Fi.
It depends on your budget. I think Asus RT-AC55UHP is a great fit.
I am using 30mbps unifi, recently get free upgrade to 50 mbps. My current router is TP Link AC1200. The problem I had faced is the wireless speed for 2.4ghz is around 30mbps, while 5ghz and wired cable can get around 50mbps. Is that this router’s 2.4ghz with 300mbps cannot reached to 50mbps?
Wireless is subjected to various interference. You can consider getting a better wireless router.
