Hi there. Currently what is the best/powerfull routers in the markets?? Which is compatible with Unifi? Looking for the most update n powerfull of all in aspects. (price is not a problem). And what is your choice?
Thanks!
It will definitely be Asus RT-AC5300 on the consumer segment.
Do it support hyppTv? And What if other router does not? Can it still useable for just only for internet(unifi)?
Yes it supports Unifi. You need a Unifi capable router.
Hi. Would like to install unifi 30 in my new house…whether can i set up a closed network to allow cctv monitor, understand some port concern on cctv..using asus vpn router will make that easier?
It doesn’t matter. But the build in free DDNS feature in Asus router may be useful.
Hi, I have unstable 30mbps Unifi (installed about 2 weeks ago) & very weak/unstable signals upstairs at my home about 50 feet away from the TM stock router, can I use TP-Link TL-Archer C7 (Version 1) router to resolve the problem or only Version 2 (V2) is compatible with Unifi?
Your advice much appreciated. TQ!
I believe the V1 version do not support Unifi.
Just upgraded to unifi 30mbps + hypptv, wifi has been unstable on several devices. My dad is looking for a replacement, need help in choosing one. The old unifi router is 2years+ old already. Budget is RM300 at best. About 11 devices are connected when everyone is around. Router placed on 2nd story floor, devices connect from 10 to 30 feet(estimate) from router position. Passes through lots of walls and doors. Lots of HD video streaming and downloading stuff. Hypptv every now and then when Astro doesn’t work. Any suggestions? I would increase budget but my dad doesn’t want to… Read more »
I believe the TP-LINK Archer C2 is a one of the best router at this price range. If your house is very big, you probably need a second AP somewhere.
Hi Sir,
Do you interested review on D-Link Products?
I have some products able to give for testing.
Thank you
Hi, if you are representative from D-LINK, please send me an email at [email protected] Thanks!
Hi sifu
Would like to get your advice on my situation
I’m currently using unifi 30mbps without using hypptv. Once my router break down and Tm changed new one for me (which is standard white orang) and after that my wireless connection always not stable.
I’m staying in a double stores house, my modem is putting in first floor. Peak hours like night time there are up to 10devices connecting included the LAN.
Need your suggestion which router is the best choice for me?
Thank you!
I cannot recommend a router without a budget. 😛 For low budget, TP-LINK is great. Else, get the best Asus you can afford. 🙂
Which one of ASUS is best suitable? Cause I don’t know what’s the price range. Less than 500?
I guess you do not need something too powerful. Asus RT-AC55UHP is a great middle range router. For lower budget, the TP-LINK Archer C2 is great.
Alright! Thanks for your help
Any idea is Aztech DSL8800FR is a good router for Unifi.
I afraid this is an ADSL router which do not work on Unifi.
Hi there Blacktubi, I’m going to install the unifi 30mbps soon and i’ve been doing alot of readings and i know that TM’s stock router is plain crap and needs to be replaced. OK so literally a technology noob here. 1. 95% of our usage is using the internet over Wifi. We have up to 11 devices connected at the same time. So we need something for to provide STRONG wifi connection. 2. Our modem is located at the upstairs hall and the wifi strength needs to be strong enough to reach a room downstairs as well. We live in… Read more »
I believe the Asus RT-AC55UHP should work pretty well for your case. Consult your wireman or just check your TNB bill regarding your home electric supply. For signal expansion, I always recommend getting a powerline based AP if rewiring is not feasible. As for QoS, it helps to reduce congestion if you have abusive user in your house. Lastly, if you want manual switching, you can configure the 2 bands with different names. Alternatively, set both of the band with the same name and let your devices do the switching automatically.
Thanks for your help! One last question, the powerline based AP, is there any brand/model suggestions? One that pairs nicely with ASUS routers or just a good brand in general 🙂
I guess TP-LINK is the only powerline manufacture you can purchase easily in Malaysia. Aztech is a worthy mention.
I’m just using normal unifi 5mb plan. Recently my WiFi connection always connect & disconnected within a few minutes. It can last for hours. This happened every time when I go to my bed room & the door is closed. The distance between the WiFi router n my room is just around 10 feet. Is it my WiFi router problem or my phones?
I believe the 2.4Ghz channel at your location is congested. Try changing your wireless channel to a less congested channel.
hi blacktubi
how to change the channel?
Look around in the webUI
Hi there blacktubi, I am currently using asus rt n66u and I have trouble with range. I get bad signal when I’m downstairs. What router would you suggest for range?
The Asus RT-N66U is a great router. I suggest you get a set of powerline AP to extend the range.
Hi Blacktubi, I’ve just upgraded my internet package from vip 10 to unifi 30 and has been using the Unifi 30mb with old unifi router without issue. I was using Unifi old router with antenna until recently it’s faulty. Called their customer service, they came and replace modem and also router without antenna ( TRG212M ). Before they replace, I’m able to use my phone wifi connection without problem. After they changed new router ( TRG212M ), now all my house phone wifi connection can’t last for few minutes, it keep disconnect and auto reconnect. However, for laptop and desktop… Read more »
I guess 2.4Ghz wireless is very congested at your location. Getting a dual band route is recommended for this case. You should experience improved wireless stability with RT-AC55UHP especially devices that are able to utilise the 5Ghz band. I recommend you to purchase a better Wireless AC capable USB Wireless Adapter to utilise the ability on the RT-AC55UHP. If your wired connection is working properly and just the wireless if faulty, getting a better wireless router should help.
Hi SIfu, I configured the router and it was working fine for all phone ( my mum and mine). However the next day, both phone is connected but no internet access on 2.4ghz. My mum phone able to connect to 5ghz with internet. My phone not able to connect to 5ghz as my phone do not support AC wifi. However my desktop is connecting via the wireless adapter DWA-123 in 2.4ghz without issue. 1) May I know how to solve this? 2) What is the wrong here? first night okay, second morning it’s down…. Hope you are able to help… Read more »
My assumption is 2.4Ghz at your location is very congested. Thus, only certain device with stronger WiFi reception are able to browse on the 2.4Ghz properly. Try configuring your 2.4Ghz to a different channel with less AP clogging up the channel. My recommendation for 2.4Ghz, 20Mhz bandwidth and choose a channel that suit you.
Hi I also having the same issue, while wired or wireless with laptop, I can get max above 30mbps while doing speed test. But the problem is when doing the speedtest on my android and apple devices, the speed is max 20mbps only. Can you advice if this is related to TM stock router?
It is most likely the router that causes the issue. You should get a more powerful router.
hi im using 30mpbs unifi and would like to upgrade my router but im not sure which one to choose as there are many options. As per your opinion which one do you suggest ?
Just choose something according to your budget. I prefer something dual band as 2.4Ghz is very congested nowadays.
